Film, Television and Broadway Star, Concert Stage, and Recording Artist, Adrienne Barbeau's career spans 38 years and is still
evolving.
Barbeau began performing in 1962 with the San Jose Civic Light Opera, and by the time she was 18, she had already entertained our serviceman throughout South East Asia and was on her way to New York where she made her Broadway debut as Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof. A Tony nomination for her creation of Rizzo in the original Broadway production of Grease led her back to California and the role of Bea Arthur's daughter, Carol, in the hit series, Maude (received Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress). Barbeau's film career began when she starred in John Carpenter's The Fog (1980). For the next 10 years, Adrienne was to compete with Jamie Lee Curtis for the title of Scream Queen, appearing in Escape From New York, Swamp Thing, and Creepshow. Barbeau's career is filled with a litany of films, films for television, and series appearances including Deep Space Nine and Diagnosis: Murder. L.A. audiences have been graced with Barbeau as talk show host, radio personality, and nightclub performer. She has starred in over 25 musicals and plays, among them The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Love Letters, and the Canadian premier of Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers. Off camera, she is the voice of Catwoman in Batman, the Animated Series, narrator of many books on tape, the Imax film The Living Sea, and the A&E special Unmentionables. Barbeau currently stays busy with her role on The Drew Carey Show, her new self-titled solo album, three new films, and, most notably, her twin boys who she gave birth to in '97 making her "the only woman on the maternity ward who was a member of AARP." |
